📚 Area of Triangles

The Formula

A = ½ × base × height

A triangle is half of a rectangle — so multiply base × height, then take half.

Find the base and the height. The height is always perpendicular (⊥) to the base — it makes a square corner.
b = 5 in, h = 12 in

Multiply base × height.
5 × 12 = 60

Take half. Divide by 2 — that's your area, in square units!
60 ÷ 2 = 30 in²

⚠️ Watch Out for the Slant!

Some triangles label every side. The slanted sides are extra information — never use them in the formula!

Right triangle with b = 5, h = 12, slant = 13 → ignore the 13! A = ½ × 5 × 12 = 30

Obtuse triangles can show the height outside the triangle on a dashed line — it still works the same way.
