📚 Volume of Rectangular Prisms
The Formula
V = B × h where B = l × w
B is the area of the base (length × width). Multiply by the height to fill the prism with cubes!
1
Find the base area: B = l × w
B = 2 × 4 = 8 square units
2
Multiply by the height: V = B × h
V = 8 × 5 = 40 units³
3
Label with cubic units! Volume is always in units³ (cm³, in³, ft³...)
Example from the Lesson
Fractions work the exact same way — multiply all three dimensions.
✓
4 1/2 × 2 × 12 → B = 4 1/2 × 2 = 9 → V = 9 × 12 = 108 in³
✓
2 × 4 × 5 → B = 2 × 4 = 8 → V = 8 × 5 = 40 units³
