Income
Money you receive (allowance, wages, gifts)
Expenses
Money you spend on things (food, clothes, fun)
Savings
Money set aside for future use
Balanced Budget
Income ≥ Total Expenses

Reading a Budget

1
Add up all expenses to find total spending.
$25 + $40 + $30 = $95 total expenses
2
Subtract total expenses from income to find remaining balance.
$200 income − $95 expenses = $105 remaining
3
Check if balanced: is income ≥ total expenses? If not, you are over budget.
$200 ≥ $95 ✓ Balanced!

Finding Percent of Income

1
Set up a proportion: put the expense over income on one side, and x over 100 on the other.
amount / income = x / 100
2
Cross multiply and solve for x.
$40 / $200 = x / 100 → 200x = 4000 → x = 20%
