📚 Parallel Lines & Transversals

The Setup

When a transversal cuts two parallel lines, it creates 8 angles. Every angle pair is either congruent (equal) or supplementary (adds to 180°).

CONGRUENT pairs (equal measures): Vertical angles · Corresponding angles · Alternate Interior angles · Alternate Exterior angles
180
SUPPLEMENTARY pairs (add to 180°): Linear pairs (angles on a straight line) · Same-Side Interior angles · Same-Side Exterior angles
1
Look at the two marked angles. Decide: congruent or supplementary?
2
Congruent → the measures are equal. Supplementary → subtract from 180° (or set the sum equal to 180°).
3
In Solve for x mode, set up the equation first, then solve. Try it in your head or on paper — then use the 🧮 calculator to verify!
