The Simple Rule

Multiply the numerators (top numbers) together.
2/3 × 4/5 → 2 × 4 = 8

Multiply the denominators (bottom numbers) together.
2/3 × 4/5 → 3 × 5 = 15

Simplify the result to lowest terms if needed.
8/15 is already simplified ✓

Cross-Reducing (Simplify First!)

Before multiplying, look for common factors between any numerator and any denominator. Dividing them out first makes the numbers smaller and easier!

Without cancelling
3/4 × 2/9

6/36

1/6
With cross-reduceling
¹/₂ × ¹/₃

1/6 directly!

× Integer × Fraction

Write the integer as a fraction with denominator 1, then multiply normally.

5 × 2/3 → 5/1 × 2/3 = 10/3
