📚 What Is a Function?

The One Rule of Functions

Every input (x) gets exactly ONE output (y)

If any x-value repeats with different y-values, it is NOT a function. Repeated y-values are OK!

1
Mapping: each input arrow points to only one output
1 → 4,  2 → 5,  3 → 4  ✓ function
2
Table or set: scan the x-row — no x may repeat
{(2, 3), (2, 7)} ✗ x = 2 repeats → NOT a function
3
Graph: use the Vertical Line Test — if a vertical line ever crosses 2 points, it fails!

How to Play

🔍
Is It a Function? — Warm-up! Check one map, table, or graph. Sometimes you'll hunt down the repeating x-value.
🎯
Spot the Function — Four relations. Pick the one that IS (or is NOT) a function.
🆕
Mixed — Both types together for the full ride!
🧮
Calculator — New this year! It's in the bottom-left corner whenever you need it.
