What Are Rational Numbers?

Any number that can be written as a fraction — whole numbers, integers, fractions, and decimals!

Picture them all on one number line. Farther right = greater. Farther left = smaller.

Positives beat negatives: any positive is greater than any negative.

With negatives, closer to zero wins: −2 is greater than −7.

Fractions vs decimals: change the fraction to a decimal to compare.
¾ = 0.75, so ¾ > 0.5

How to Order a List

Change everything to the same form (decimals are easiest).

Place them on a number line in your head — negatives on the left, positives on the right.

Read the direction! Least to greatest goes left → right. Greatest to least goes right → left.
