📚 Percent Increase & Decrease

Finding the Percent Change

1
Find the amount of change: subtract old from new (or new from old for decrease).
Old = 50, New = 65  →  Change = 65 − 50 = 15
2
Divide by the original value and multiply by 100.
15 / 50 × 100 = 30%
% Increase = (new − old) / old × 100
% Decrease = (old − new) / old × 100

Finding the New Value

1
Convert percent to decimal: divide by 100.
25% → 0.25
2
For increase: New = Original × (1 + rate)
$80 with 25% increase: 80 × 1.25 = $100
3
For decrease: New = Original × (1 − rate)
$80 with 25% decrease: 80 × 0.75 = $60
