📚 Percent Proportions

The One Proportion That Solves Everything

partwhole = %100

Fill in the two numbers you know, put n where the missing number goes, then cross multiply and divide.

1
Find the percent: 5 is what percent of 20?
5/20 = n/100 → 20 × n = 5 × 100 → n = 500 ÷ 20 = 25%
2
Find the whole: 75% of what number is 15?
15/n = 75/100 → 75 × n = 15 × 100 → n = 1500 ÷ 75 = 20
3
Find the part: What number is 80% of 40?
n/40 = 80/100 → 100 × n = 80 × 40 → n = 3200 ÷ 100 = 32

Where Does Each Number Go?

The number next to "of" is usually the whole (bottom of the fraction).
The number next to "is" is usually the part (top of the fraction).
The number with the % sign always goes over 100.
