📚 Area of Quadrilaterals

ⶁ Parallelogram — A = b × h

Slice off the triangle end and slide it over — you get a rectangle! That’s why the formula is base × height, just like a rectangle.

Find the base and the height. The height is perpendicular to the base — not the slanted side!
b = 12 cm, h = 4 cm

Multiply: A = b × h
A = 12 × 4 = 48 cm²

⏢ Trapezoid — A = ½(b₁ + b₂) × h

Two copies of a trapezoid fit together to make a parallelogram — so a trapezoid is half of one!

Add the two bases (the parallel sides).
b₁ + b₂ = 8 + 12 = 20

Take half, then multiply by the height.
A = ½ × 20 × 5 = 50 cm²
