🔍 Are These Figures Similar?

What Makes Figures Similar?

Two figures are similar if ALL pairs of corresponding sides have the same ratio.
Triangle (3,4,5) vs (6,8,10): 3/6 = 4/8 = 5/10 = 1/2 ✓ Similar!
Figures are not similar if even ONE pair of sides has a different ratio.
Triangle (3,4,5) vs (6,8,11): 3/6 = 4/8 = 1/2, but 5/11 ≠ 1/2 ✗ Not similar.

How to Check

1
Divide each side of Figure 1 by the corresponding side of Figure 2.
2
Check if ALL the ratios are the same number.
3
If yes → Similar. If any ratio differs → Not Similar.

Shapes You’ll See

Triangles — compare all 3 sides
Rectangles — compare length and width
Parallelograms — compare base and side
△̲
Trapezoids — compare both bases and the legs

△ Similar Example

✓ 3÷6 = 4÷8 = 5÷10 = ½ — all ratios equal → Similar!

▭ Not Similar Example

✗ 6÷9 = ⅔ but 4÷7 ≠ ⅔ — ratios differ → Not Similar!
