📚 Reading Scatter Plots

What Is a Scatter Plot?

A scatter plot graphs bivariate data — two related data sets — as points (x, y) to show their relationship.

↗️
Positive association: as x increases, y increases. Points climb up to the right.
↘️
Negative association: as x increases, y decreases. Points fall down to the right — like price of an item vs. number of buyers!
No association: the points are scattered with no pattern at all.

Clusters & Outliers

🔭
Cluster: data that is closely grouped together on the plot.
📍
Outlier: a data point that is very different from the rest of the data — it sits far away from the pattern.
