📚 Slope & Rate of Change

What Is Slope?

slope = rise ÷ run

Slope tells you how steep a line is. It is the rate of change — how much y changes every time x goes up by 1.

1
Pick two perfect points on the line — points that sit exactly on grid corners.
2
Count the rise: how far UP (+) or DOWN (−) from the first point to the second.
3
Count the run: how far RIGHT from the first point to the second.
rise 4, run 2  →  m = 4/2 = 2
4
Lines going down from left to right have a negative slope.

The k Connection: y = kx

Remember proportional relationships? In y = kx, the constant k IS the slope! A new twist: lines don't have to start at (0, 0). Where a line crosses the y-axis is called the y-intercept.

y = 3x → slope (k) = 3, crosses the y-axis at 0
A line through (0, 2) crosses the y-axis at 2 — that's its y-intercept
Slope stays the same everywhere on a line — it's a constant rate of change!

How to Play

📈
Find the Slope — Use the two dots on the graph. Type the slope as a whole number or a fraction (top box = rise, bottom box = run). Leave the bottom box empty for whole numbers.
🔍
Match the Graph — You're given a slope. Tap the graph that matches it!
🆕
Mixed — Both types together for the ultimate challenge!
🧮
